Breach of Contract Attorney Los Angeles

Contracts connect businesses. They allow companies to work together in mutually beneficial relationships. When one business fails to abide by the contract the other business has a problem.

Section 1549 of the Civil Code defines a contract simply as “an agreement to do or not to do a certain thing. The law provides that “a contract is a promise or a set of promises for the breach of which the law gives a remedy, or the performance of which the law in some way recognizes as a duty.” In other words both parties are legally bound to fulfill the promises they make in a contract.  Contracts are often written documents, but not always.  Sometimes a “handshake agreement”  is enforceable in court.

The Law Offices of Galen Gentry can stand by your side in any contract dispute. We are a law firm that is focused on winning your case and helping your business succeed. We are different from our competitors in our approach to litigation, our pricing and our attorney’s  availability to answer clients’ questions.  If you have a substantive question about your matter you speak to the lawyer in charge, not a secretary. For more information on why we should be your firm read this.

Most cases settle but preparing every case as if it will be presented to a jury is the most effective way of obtaining the best settlement. No matter what type of contract lies at the heart of a dispute,  we can help.

The Law Offices of Galen Gentry represents businesses in Beverly Hills,  Santa Monica,  West Los Angeles and throughout Southern California.

Interference with Prospective Business Relationships

In addition to handling contract disputes, we are able to address cases involving interference with prospective economic relations. The law imposes liability for improper methods of disrupting or diverting the business relationship of another which fall outside the boundaries of fair competition.

To move forward with a complaint of intentional interference with prospective economic relations, the following must be present:

  • An economic relationship between the plaintiff and a third party, with a strong possibility of future economic benefit
  • A defendant that was aware of this relationship
  • Acts on the part of the defendant intended to damage the relationship
  • Disruption of the burgeoning business relationship
  • Economic damage to the plaintiff

In August of 2013 I received a judgment of over $120,000 on behalf of a corporate client in a contract dispute in a case in Los Angeles County Superior Court

In October of 2010 after a 30 day trial I won a  3.4 million dollar dollar jury verdict in a fraud case on behalf of the City of Compton. Read the LA Times Article about the case here.

I am a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum which are two of the most prestigious groups of trial lawyers in the United States.  Membership is limited to attorneys who have won million and multi-million dollar verdicts.  Fewer than 1% of U.S. lawyers are members.  I am the immediate past chairman of the Beverly Hills Bar Intellectual Property Section, which I chaired from 2010-2013.

The average civil case takes about a year to resolve. In many cases much of what lawyers do in that year has no impact on what happens in the trial and does not contribute to settlement. Some of the work is important–discovery reveals the evidence, and motions can narrow the issues. But a large portion of the work is actually driven by law firm economics. Lawyers, particularly those hired by large companies and insurance companies, do unnecessary work in order to bill for it. Many lawyers are more focused on billing than on winning.  My firm is different. We are focused on winning. We do everything that is necessary, and nothing that is not.
